Our terms and conditions.
Using this site, and giving through it. Short on purpose.
Last updated: 11 October 2026
These terms cover two things: using this site, and giving through it. They are short on purpose. If anything here is unclear, write to info@globalgirlsfoundation.org and a person will answer.
Who we are
Global Girls Foundation is a Swiss foundation (Stiftung) under Art. 80 ff. of the Swiss Civil Code, established by public deed on 15 September 2022 and entered in the Commercial Register of the Canton of Zurich on 30 September 2022 under UID CHE-347.920.926. Registered office: Badenerstrasse 580, 8048 Zurich, Switzerland. Email: info@globalgirlsfoundation.org. The Foundation was founded by Plan International, Inc., New York; is supervised by the Federal Supervisory Authority for Foundations (Federal Department of Home Affairs, Bern); is recognised as tax exempt for public benefit by the Zurich Cantonal Tax Office; and has its accounts audited by the statutory auditor entered in the Commercial Register.

Giving through this site
A gift made on this site is a donation to Global Girls Foundation. Under Swiss law a donation is a gift (Art. 239 ff. of the Code of Obligations): nothing is bought or sold, and once made a gift is final, except as set out under Mistakes and refunds below. You must be 18 or over to give by card.
The Foundation fulfils its purpose mainly by making grants to charitable organisations that carry out the work, above all Plan International, Inc. That is what its register entry says, and it is what your gift will do. A gift to the Annual Giving Fund goes to the Foundation's flagship programmes, where the need is greatest, and the Board decides where. If you choose a flagship, your gift is restricted to that flagship, and the Board decides which of its programmes it funds. A designated gift, agreed with you in a first conversation, is restricted to the programme or area of work you chose. A programme chosen in the giving panel is restricted to it; for a bank transfer, that is the programme named in your payment reference or in your email to us. If a restricted gift cannot be used as you chose, because the work is fully funded or cannot go ahead, we will ask you before using it for other work within the Foundation's purpose; if we cannot reach you, we will apply it to the closest similar work and record why.
How giving works
- Choose a currency, how often, where the gift goes and how much, and give us your email address for the receipt.
- Press Give. For a one-time gift, Stripe's card and wallet fields appear on our page; if they cannot load, your browser goes to a payment page run by Stripe instead. For a monthly gift, your browser always goes to Stripe's payment page. Either way you can change what you chose, or stop, at any point before you confirm.
- Enter your card or wallet details in Stripe's fields or on Stripe's page. They go to Stripe, our payment processor, and never reach us or this site.
- When Stripe confirms the payment, the gift is made. Stripe emails you a receipt, and you see our thank-you page. If the payment is not completed, the site says so and no gift is made.
- For a monthly gift, the amount each month is shown before you confirm. The first payment is taken when you confirm, and the rest as set out under Monthly gifts below.
- If you ask for our bank details, or your gift is above 999,999.99 in the currency you chose (the most we take by card or wallet; your card's own limit may be lower), the giving panel shows our bank details instead of card fields. You make the gift by transfer from your own bank, and it is made when the money reaches our account. Enter the payment reference the panel shows, so that we can apply your gift to the designation you chose.
The amount is shown in the currency you chose. On Stripe's own payment page, Stripe may offer to charge it in your local currency, at a rate shown before you confirm. Otherwise, if your card is in another currency, your bank sets the exchange rate and may add a fee. The payment methods are those Stripe offers on the page.
Receipts and tax
Every gift is receipted. For a gift by card or wallet, Stripe emails a receipt for each payment, in the Foundation's name, to the address you gave; for a bank transfer, we send you one. Keep them: a Swiss tax return lists each gift. If you pay tax in Switzerland, your gifts to the Foundation are deductible from the direct federal tax if they total at least CHF 100 in the tax year, up to 20 per cent of your net income (Art. 33a of the Federal Direct Tax Act); Zurich applies the same limits to cantonal tax, and other cantons set their own. The Foundation is on the Zurich Cantonal Tax Office's list of institutions exempt for public or charitable purposes. Outside Switzerland a gift to a Swiss foundation is generally not tax-deductible; ask your adviser. We do not give tax advice.
Monthly gifts
A monthly gift is not a commitment to keep giving. Each month's payment is a gift when it is made, and you can stop at any time.
- By card: you set it up on Stripe's payment page, from the giving panel or from a link we send you. The first payment is taken when you confirm, and the next on the same date each month (on the last day of a shorter month), in the same amount and currency and for the same designation, until you stop it. Stripe keeps your payment method on file to take each payment. We never change the amount without your agreement. You can raise, lower or stop the gift at any time by writing to info@globalgirlsfoundation.org; a change takes effect from the next payment. If a payment is taken after you asked us to stop, we refund it.
- By standing order, for a monthly gift by bank transfer: you set it up with your own bank, and you raise, lower or stop it with your bank. We cannot change or stop a standing order for you.
Mistakes and refunds
A gift, once made, is final. But mistakes happen: the wrong amount, a gift taken twice, a monthly gift that was meant to be a one-time one. Write to info@globalgirlsfoundation.org within 30 days and we will refund the payment to the card, wallet or bank account it came from. After that, write to us anyway: a payment taken by mistake is still put right. A refunded gift cannot be claimed for tax, and any receipt for it is cancelled.
Bank transfers and other gifts
The bank details on the Give page, and those the giving panel shows, are the Foundation's own. A gift by bank transfer, whether from you, a company or a foundation, needs no agreement in advance. Gifts of shares or securities, gifts through a donor-advised fund, gifts in a will, membership of the Annual Giving Fund and a designated gift shaped with you in conversation are arranged with the team; nothing on this site commits you or us to one of these until it is agreed in writing.
Writing to us and the newsletter
Sending a message or signing up to the newsletter commits you to nothing. The newsletter goes out only after you confirm your address by the link we email you, and every issue has a link to leave. What happens to what you type is in our privacy notice.
Photographs and stories
The photographs of girls and young women on this site come from Plan International or its partners, or are the Foundation's own, and are used under the consent arrangements made for them. Names and places may be changed to protect a child. If you are shown on this site, or are the parent or guardian of a child who is, and you want a photograph or a story taken down, write to info@globalgirlsfoundation.org and we will remove it.
Our liability
We are liable without limit for intent and gross negligence, and wherever the law does not allow liability to be excluded (Art. 100 of the Code of Obligations). Beyond that, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of this site, from relying on its content, or from the site being unavailable.
Changes
We may change these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed. The terms in force when you make a gift apply to that gift.
Law and courts
Swiss law applies. The courts of Zurich, Switzerland, have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory rule that gives you a court where you live.
